Did you guys know that fonts have anatomy?? It’s so amazing. Each family has a unique style, but in order for the family to be cohesive, they follow these various guidelines of anatomy. There is so much to learn about typography, much more than pretty fonts. So I’ve created a little guide to help you understand the anatomy of a font. And from now on, you’ll be noticing all these little features in each family you use. If you’re interested in learning more about Typography, I highly recommend the book, Thinking With Type by Ellen Lupton. And be sure to download this week’s font, Fanwood! – Eva Black

This week’s font : Fanwood

I just had a class yesterday in my graphic design course on typography and the anatomy of fonts, this was the exact lesson plan and my instructor even recommended Thinking With Type by Ellen Lupton! I do believe I’m going to print this out and study it, as it’s so much prettier than any textbook ;)

Love this. Once again, you’re making me miss college :) Typography was such a fun class, especially if you are a little bit obsessive and detail oriented.
