It’s a New Year

January 14, 2013

…So, it’s 2013 huh?? Sadly, I rang in the new year with the flu and am still getting over it – I guess I’ll survive. Although, I feel like it has kept me from reflecting & moving forward because my head is all cloudy & grumpy. I had plans to sit down and evaluate myself in every way a person should: Was I a good friend? Was I a good boss ( to myself, ha ), Was I healthy? Did I sleep enough? Am I saving enough $$, Do I work too much? etc… Of coarse there is always room for improvement so I am looking forward to getting un-sick and coming up with my game-plan for the new year! What are you guys most excited about as we all move forward?? Inspire me!

As of right this second, I am unpacking boxes & boxes of my life into my new bedroom. ( If you didn’t hear, I am now an SF resident. Well – technically I am in Berkeley, same difference. )  I love cleansing and reevaluating the things that we surround ourselves with on a daily basis. It’s so easy to settle and become complacent. I find that it’s so important, as I’m sure you guys do too, to create a living and working environment that leaves you happy, healthy, and inspired!! So for the next while, I will be working on creating a NEW space for myself, as well as making NEW friends, and trying to feel “at home” in this NEW gorgeous city. Cheers to a NEW chapter. ( p.s. This killer braid was done by Ali Brislin – Check out her Instagram for more pretty pictures of braids** )

**I Have A Secret**

January 04, 2013

I am so excited to finally be able to show you guys something from my “secret project”. Now don’t get your hopes up TOO much because I still can’t tell you a lot. These are some behind-the-scenes shots captured by Marissa Maharaj from the big photo-shoot we had last month. It was 2 days full of fashion, yarn, music, makeup, tears, food, stress, happiness… I have been working on all of this since April and everything is quickly coming to an end. At this point, the majority of the grunt work is done and it’s time to watch everything fall into place. That’s the best part of any project right??

As you can tell from all these pretty yarn balls below, the project has to do with knitting – a hobby that has been in my life for a while now. I had no idea it would take on such a life of its own. Don’t you love it when the things that you’re passionate about naturally take over and guide you in an awesome direction?? 2012 has been great to me in that way. Stay tuned as I continue to slowly reveal the exciting news!!

In case you don’t recognize that talented photographer in the blue, it’s Max Wanger. I was lucky enough to snag him for this project and couldn’t be happier with how everything has turned out. Max and I shared a studio space this year, alongside other creatives, but never had the opportunity to actually work on something together. I have always admired his unique perspective and KNOW that it will elevate my project to a place that I couldn’t have gone on my own. THANKS Max.

The Impossible Project was kind of enough to send us loads of film for the shoot. You’ll get a closer look at all those dreamy Polaroids soon, I promise!! Max shoots Polaroids pretty regularly – you should check some of them out here. ( p.s. don’t mind my bare feet – more often then not, I am shoe-less )

Some News

December 13, 2012

If you haven’t heard the news yet, here it goes… I have officially decided to move to San Francisco. It will be happening in… 28 days! I am incredibly excited & sad, mainly excited! Los Angeles has been so wonderful to me this past year – it was hard to imagine leaving when I first considered it ( I can’t believe it has already been a full year ). My handful of friends have kept me inspired, happy, and in motion – something that I haven’t had in a very very long time. I am going to miss them dearly but look forward to maintaing their relationships while moving forward and starting new ones. Cheers to change!!! P.S. This pic was taken by Lou Mora while driving around in a friend’s Volvo drinking slurpees.

NOTE: If you are in the bay area – I’d love to hear from you! I don’t know very many people there and am excited to branch out! Also, I am looking for a shared work space and have no leads as of right now. Any words of wisdom would be GREATLY appreciated. xoxo**

Kinfolk | Volume No. 06

December 07, 2012

Another Kinfolk Magazine has arrived! Have you perused its pages yet? I had the opportunity to visually capture a craft that I am very passionate about, knitting, and share it within the beautiful and wintery Volume 6!! A few of us went up North and visited a sheep farm to watch and capture the shearing process. It was such an interesting and inspiring morning – being able to see where wool fibers come from and what’s involved in gathering it up. I now have a deeper appreciate for the yarn that I work with and feel more connected to the craft. ( p.s. The sheep and the pup were best friends )

Here are some iphone out-takes from the day: A friend of mine, Jessica Comingore, tagged along to help. We spent the majority of our time laughing at how loud and absurd the sheep sound when they get worked up. The beautiful images were all taken by Young & Hungry. The farm we went to was Bearhill Farms in Norco, CA and the shearer was Fred Flory of Flory’s Sheep Shearing.

C’est Moi

November 13, 2012

Me and my roommate decided to spend this past Saturday morning together, walking around exploring. Our neighborhood has lots of secret stairways and hills that reveal little nooks and crannies. We decided to conquer one in particular – it seemed extra hidden. As we ventured up ( in our heeled shoes, ha ) we came across anything and everything – beautiful lighting, kittens, overgrown homes and paths, hikers, etc. It was glorious!! These images are the result of our morning together and the special details we came across.

I recently found this Mink Pink skirt at a local shop called Individual Medley. I can’t get enough of it. It has a high-waist fit and amazing slits up both sides. It’s a good combination of comfy and sexy. My shoes are Dolce Vita – I would die without their beautiful thick leather straps. The loose knit sweater is your basic F21 purchase and the double band brass ring was handmade by Christine Young of Young Frankk.

A big fat massive thank you to my roomie, Marissa Maharaj, for taking pretty pictures of me. She never fails to amaze me with her skillz. You can see my other style posts that she shot here, here & here!

Lovely Lady – Me!

November 07, 2012

Introducing… ME!! I know I know, I shouldn’t be a Lovely Lady but for the first time in a long time I don’t have someone lined up for this week. Cringe!! Sometimes you just HAVE to drop the ball and deal with it. This pic is from the first lazy Sunday I have had in a very long time. I slept in, got yummy coffee, and stayed cozy.

Emma = Missing in Action

October 19, 2012

Happy Friday y’all. I just found these pictures on Max Wanger’s website and they made me really happy. We took these probably a month ago and I forgot about them, nice little treat. There is nothing like impromptu roof-top time with an American flag and some friends ( that’s me in the middle ).

Anywhoo – I wanted to write a quick note saying that I am sorry for being so MIA lately. If you’re a regular to Emmadime, then you have probably noticed that my posts have slowed down over the past few weeks. This is by no means going to be a regular thing, trust me. It’s actually been a lot more of a challenge than I thought it was going to be. I have been blogging daily for who knows how long so it was a very foreign feeling when I stopped that routine.

Since April, I have been working on a very exciting personal project ( …that I can’t tell you guys about just yet) It has slowly become more time consuming and intense over the past few months, hence why things have slowed down in my blogging life. I have had to balance my already hectic life with more work than anyone should have on their plate. I keep telling myself it’s going to be worth it, because gosh-dangit… it is!!! But, I can’t help but hate that my life is being put on the back-burner because of one huge commitment I made. It’s exciting but it’s tough.

SooOOooo – There is really no point to this post except to get a tiny bit personal and share where I am at. Cheers to challenges and making it through them!! ( …and hoping that your friends and family will hug you with forgiving arms at the end of it all, ha )* …but seriously
