Lovely Lady – Alyssa Clark

October 24, 2012

Introducing Alyssa Clark!! I found her via Instagram :) I was drawn to her adorable haircut and overall style – I couldn’t resist sharing her goodness with you guys. She is currently studying professional writing and working on moving to New York City! “In my spare time I perform at poetry readings; you’ll most likely find me with a black coffee in hand!” I’ve also written for a local magazine, Fine Living Lancaster, on Lancaster’s health care services.

…and now her favorite piece and why :
“Definitely the pleated jean shirt. First of all- you can never go wrong with a jean shirt! But I just adore the feminine touch the pleats add!”

THANKS ALYSSA!!!

Introducing Rebecca Beach. She lives just outside of NYC in New Jersey and works as a food & prop stylist and event planner. She blogs at A Daily Something about diy projects, recipes, thrifting, and her work. She also makes custom decorations and props for events and photo-shoots. Some of her favorite projects are: working with Bri Emery in designing/making decor for her NYC blogshops and styling The Stand NY’s fall + winter catering menu. “Besides my work, I like to hang out with my nephews and niece, drink lots of coffee, visit all the thrift stores I know of, write lists of things to do, and dream about future projects, collaborations and meeting new people!”

…and now her favorite piece and why :
“My wedges! I found them at a thrift store and snatched them really fast before anyone else saw them. They were $15 and I wear them almost every time I need heels. They’re comfortable, a great color, and such a steal.”

THANKS Rebecca!!

Introducing Deenie Hartzog!! I found her via an adorable blog post she put up showcasing a pair of orange pumps  – it was love at first sight! Not only is she a talented writer, but she is incredibly stylish & has an amazing personality. We also share a love for French Bulldogs – sigh… dream dog…

Now, a little bit about her —> “I’m currently the marketing Copy Director at Bon Appétit magazine, which I love not only for the people, but also for the copious amounts of food & drink that come through the office. On the side, I write my own beauty lifestyle blog, Bourbon & Gloss & am always on the lookout for interesting editorial projects!! Most recently, I published an article about sex trafficking in Issue 5 of The Work Mag.”

…and now her favorite piece and why :
“It’s a tie between the plaid button-down and the navy blouse. I’m a total sucker for menswear-inspired style. If given the choice, I’d swipe my boyfriend’s button-downs over a women’s blouse any day. To me, there’s just something eternally sexy and confident about women in men’s clothing. But I also really love the colors and the shape of this Dolce Vita top. After eyeballing it for months, I finally purchased it from my friends’ shop, and wear just about every Saturday and Sunday.”

Introducing Adrienne Antonson – my new creative crush. She is the designer of STATE, a clothing company that makes utilitarian and stylish items for women from sustainable and responsible materials. I have had my eye on ALL her products for a while now. She is one talented lady!!

A little from her : “I just launched an online shop for the brand which is keeping me extremely busy & happy. I live in Brooklyn, NY but dream of one day running away to live on a farm with clotheslines & a barn-studio. Until then I keep active by walking 24 blocks to the Post Office (almost) every day to mail STATE orders to ladies all over the world. I spent the last few years living & working on an alpaca farm on an island in the NW & learned as much as I could about raising & working with alpacas & the rewards of country life.”

…and now her favorite piece and why :
“My favorite pieces are my wedding rings. My dad made the gold knotted band for my mom when they first fell in love. He made it from melted gold teeth! (he’s a dentist) and now it’s my wedding band. My husband gave me the antique diamond cluster ring a few Christmases ago and it’s from the late 1700′s! I love thinking of all the women who have worn this before me. I’m also very fond of these bleached suspenders I just made for the shop. They combine all of my favorite aesthetics into one piece: artsy, grandpa, and farm chic — AND they hold your pants up!”

Gentle-man : Wade Koch

September 26, 2012

Introducing Wade Koch – the talented videographer behind the Presshaus LA studio tour that went up a few weeks ago!! He did such an amazing job that I felt compelled to invite him to be a Gentle-man!!

Here is his story : “I moved to LA six months ago from Iowa to chase my growing passion for film-making. I work for three commercial, photo and wedding companies: Shark Pig, Smilebooth and Our Labor of Love. I spend a lot of spare time writing script. I would love to write for film some day…But in the meantime I’m stoked about my life outside of the typical workforce, in which I’ve spent considerable time. For about ten years I thought I wanted to be a great musician…and I made some small accomplishments…but once I got my first camera, that passion pretty much left me, and I hardly touch my guitar anymore. In any case, it seems like my life/career seems to want to be centered around storytelling, so I try to be as versatile as possible. I’m still going through culture shock and adapting to the ways of LA (haircuts…lingo…traffic…attitude…) but I feel like I’m in the right place, and I’ll figure that stuff out eventually.”

…and now his favorite piece and why :
“None of them, really. I have yet to find a work outfit in which I totally feel like myself. I’m used to wearing a uniform to work…and now that I work for myself I need to get on top of my style. I think it has to do with making purchases that I really dig rather than what I think is ‘LA’. I guess it’s a process of building confidence…”

THANKS WADE.

Lovely Lady – Hilary Walker

September 19, 2012

Introducing Hilary Walker of Hilary Inspired. Those shorts paired with that jacket are pretty perfect huh!? Currently, her work is taking her in two major creative directions. She blogs over at Hilary Inspired and finds a tremendous amount of artistic satisfaction there. In school, she studied interior design so the other side of her focus is a little more predictable. She offers freelance interior design assistance and social media management to a few interior design firms in Dallas, TX, such as Studio Ten 25, Denise McGaha Interiors, and PULP Design Studios!!

…and now her favorite piece & why :
“If I’m judging on versatility & usefulness, I’d have to say that my jean jacket is probably my most favorite piece in my entire wardrobe right now! It’s so classic and instantly gives anything I wear that casual, cool vibe. But, if we’re judging on simply the fun factor, then the floral shorts win all the way! They’re unique, a bit old-fashioned, and definitely take some guts to wear… and that’s exactly why I love them!”

THANKS HILARY +

Introducing my favorite letter-presser & new good friend, Kristine Arellano of Presshaus LA. Kristine and I met through a website called Inker Linker when I was looking for someone to spruce up my business cards. I typed in my area code and BOOM, I saw that there was a print shop literally a few houses down from me. I emailed her and within an hour I was walking down to her house for a chat. It’s funny how things work out sometimes. Since then, I have used her for all my new branding materials and couldn’t be happier with the finished product. She was recently featured in a book called The Vandercook 100 – it celebrates 100 years of printing on the Vandercook proof press and showcases 100 of today’s most significant letterpress printers who use the Vandercook press. What an honor huh??

As soon as I got to know Kristine better, I knew she would be the perfect Lovely Lady as well as, drum-roll… The subject of the second STUDIO TOUR here on Emmadime. ( if you missed the first studio tour with Satsuki, go here to watch it ) I’m going to let the video tell the rest of Kristine’s story! Sit back & enjoy… It made my heart really happy when I watched it for the first time!

” My boots because they remind me of how I wore them all year in Germany through winter snow & through the summer – and the necklace because my mister made it!”

A HUGE thank you to Wade Koch for shooting & editing this video. I was blown away at the time & energy that he put into this studio tour. If only you guys could hear his story about getting that rooftop time lapse – so hilarious and incredible initiative!!

Lovely Lady – Moorea Seal

September 05, 2012

Introducing the lovely Moorea Seal – a 25 year old full time artist living in the magical city of Seattle. She is juggling a lot right now and loving it! Currently she is designing & hand-making bohemian inspired jewelry for her shop and planning a bag line for the fall. She is also a blog designer for Freckled Nest Design and dabbles in Illustration & Graphic Design.

…and now her favorite piece & why :
“It’s hard for me to choose whether I like the jacket or the dress more. Both are fantastic pieces to transition from summer to fall, and even winter because the dress is so cozy. I am an autumn girl at heart so the warm orange-y red of the jacket is a favorite color – but I love the texture, pattern, & shape of the dress.”

If you want to see more pictures from this gorgeous photo-shoot, go here.
THANKS MOOREA +

Lovely Lady – Leela Cyd

August 22, 2012

Introducing Leela Cyd, an incredibly talented photographer based in Portland, Oregon & Los Angeles, California. She’s also Apartment Therapy & The Kitchn’s Photo Magician, where she teaches photo skills to freelancers & bloggers. Right now, she is excited about her new blog: Tea Cup Tea, a project dedicated to her most beloved beverage. “It’s a spot to share in all the fun, connections, friendship and snacks that come along with tea. I’m also gearing up for several cookbook shoots this Fall. Cookbooks are wonderful because I get to work with a team of fabulous people (stylists, cooks, art directors) then when we’re done we can clean up, feast and relax a little before going our separate ways. Lastly, I just confirmed that I’ll be teaching a photography workshop in Florence, Italy in May of next year — so stoked on that!”

Here’s a little bit more on some of the pieces she is wearing. The Tan bracelet from Mexico was handmade by a blind woman who uses horse hair and bullets! The dress was handmade for her in South India by a tailor named Shiva. He spoke no English and she spoke no Konkani, so they communicated by drawings.

…and now her favorite piece & why :
“This dress is my favorite because it reminds me of the time we spent living in India a few years ago. It’s bright, comfortable & happy – perfect for Portland in the rain with tights, a sweater & boots or in summer with sandals and a big hat. The full skirt makes it a goody for bike riding too.”
