I took these photos a few weeks ago while visiting family in Texas. They are definitely my favorite summer memories so far! This was a gloomy day at the beach so I spent the morning gathering driftwood & broken washed-up shells with my little sister. As I quickly filled my plastic smiley face bag, I knew exactly what I was going to make with them. I was inspired by two things: 01. I saw this little diddy on Laura Dart’s back porch 02. I fell in love with these mobiles that Bash Please made for an event!! I couldn’t help but make myself a driftwood mobile – check it out.
It ended up being a lot more difficult than I thought it would be to get these home with me. I basically ran out of room in my suitcase and ended up awkwardly carrying them on the plane. As soon as I got back to California, I sat down with a friend and we fiddled with different ways to assemble it. What shape did we want it? What type of string or thread would we use? It took a decent amount of trial and error ( …and some bbq ) before we found a solution we were happy with.
I haven’t decided where I am going to hang it yet. That’s always the fun part – deciding where it’s new home will be. Overall, I am super happy with how it turned out. I love how it is imperfect and actually incredibly wobbly and uncentered. I do kind of wish that I had some colorful stones instead of my neutral shells… A pop of color would be so nice! What do you think!
